Hospers, Miss Jeanetta

Miss Jeanetta Hospers

Jeanetta Hospers was hired by the library board of Pella to serve as the assistant librarian on 10 December 1907.[1] Working with Librarian Carrie Van Vliet, she earned a wage of $10 per week.[2]

She was born on 18 February 1890 to Nicholas Hospers and Petronella Van Lewwen in Pella.[3] Jeanetta grew up in Pella, and spent most of her life there. Sometime before 1910 she left her job as an assistant librarian to become a teacher in Pella.[4] She married Samuel Van Vliet, brother of head librarian Carrie Van Vliet,[5] on 1 January 1912.[6] They had two children, Paul Hospers and Charles Dean who they raised in Pella.[7] Jeannetta and her husband moved to Amarillo, Texas, sometime after 1930, when the census recorded them living in Pella.[8] Jeanetta died in Amarillo, Texas on 5 May 1979.[9] She is buried in Pella’s Oak Wood Cemetery.[10]
