Laurens is a town in Pocahontas County, which was established on January 15, 1851. The county was named for Pocahontas(1595-1617), the Native American daughter of Chief Powhatan, who had intervened with the early Virginia settlers. The county seat is at Parvin, which went through name changes from Highland City, to Milton, to Rolfe to Parvin.
