Grundy Center is the county seat of Grundy County, which was established on January 15, 1851. Grundy County is named for Senator Felix H. Grundy (1777-1840) who served as a politician in Kentucky and Tennessee. In 1856, Belpre was named the county seat, and the town was later renamed Grundy Center. Grundy County received two Carnegie grants for the towns of Grundy Center and Reinbeck.
