Twelfth Census of the United States — 1900. p. 449.
Eagle Grove is a town in Wright County, which was established January 15, 1851. Wright County was named for Silas Wright (1795-1847) a former Governor of New York, and for Joseph A. Wright (1810-1867) who had served as a Governor of Indiana. In 1865, the town of Clarion, due to its location in the center of the county, was designated as the county seat. In Wright County, Eagle Grove and Belmond both received Carnegie grants, although Belmond chose not to accept theirs.
